One of the larger Chamaedoreas, it has a green, ringed, solitary stem that can reach up to 10 m in height and a diameter of 8 cm when fully grown. It forms a spreading crown with flat, broadly pinnate leaves. This species is native to the rainforests and montane forests bordering the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia, where it occurs at elevations between 500 and 2800 m. Like other Chamaedoreas, it grows rapidly and is easily cultivated in most warm temperate and tropical climates.
