This rarity is virtually unknown in cultivation, which is not surprising, as reaching the locations requires hours of boat rides; there are no roads there. Furthermore, the germination period can be up to three years. Few people undertake this, and contacts in Colombia and Ecuador are a huge help... This palm grows both single-stemmed and multi-stemmed. The individual trunks grow up to 10 m tall and have a diameter of 15 cm. The crown contains 6–12 leaves, divided into approximately 60 leaflets and intensely silvery beneath. The fruits are elliptical-elongated, 2–2.5 cm long and 1.8–2 cm in diameter. The wood is used in house construction for walls and ceilings. The leaves are used for roofing and fence posts. Oil is extracted from the fruits.
