A very elegant palm from the rainforests of western Panama, where it grows at an altitude of 100 to 1200 m. It forms slender trunks with beautiful, flat, slightly curved, densely pinnate leaves, whose narrow leaflets have very fine, drooping tips. The new growth is a pretty pink color. The heavily branched inflorescence is red and bears small, round fruits that turn black when ripe. It would make a wonderful ornamental plant, but is practically uncultivated. It thrives best in a sheltered location.
