A beautiful, multi-stemmed palm, even as a seedling, that later develops into a large, multi-stemmed tree, found in rainforests on the Malay Peninsula, but also in Sumatra and Java, where it is found in mid-elevation rainforests. The very large, pinnate leaves are dark green on the upper surface and silvery underneath. The robust trunk is densely covered in black fibers. Seed germination is a patient process, usually taking more than a year and occurring very sporadically, making it certainly very rare to find in cultivation.
