The smallest Australian Livistona is native to the eucalyptus savannas in the northern part of Australia's Northern Territory and is native to sandy soils. It forms a slender trunk that can reach a height of up to 7 m, but usually remains shorter, and supports a comparatively sparse crown of stiff, fan-shaped leaves with deeply divided segments. L. humilis is drought and bushfire resistant and is best suited to dry, tropical climates, where it prefers a location in full sun. This palm is rarely seen in cultivation.
