It grows up to an altitude of 700 m in moist or wet forests on the Atlantic slopes on hard limestone. It is not widely distributed. Chamaedorea adscenders is an unusually attractive small palm, reaching a maximum height of 2.5 meters after many years. Its velvety gray-blue-green leaves are among the thickest in the genus. It is mostly pinnate, but some split leaves are not uncommon and are usually found on younger specimens. It prefers warm, sheltered, and moist conditions. It survives in mild Mediterranean climates. It originates from a region of intermittent drought, and anecdotal evidence from gardeners suggests that it is indeed quite drought-tolerant.
