Sabal minor is one of the most frost-hardy palms in the world. It is native to the southern and southeastern United States and remains bushy throughout its life due to its underground trunk. The fan-shaped fronds are blue-green or green, depending on the sun intensity, are incised almost to the petiole, and are "split in half" in the middle. Since dwarf palmettos are native to the undergrowth of swamps with pines, oaks, or cypresses as overstory trees, they always appreciate moist, sandy, humus-rich soil and partially shaded locations, although they also survive dry periods in summer. Planted specimens should be placed in partially sunny locations and receive protection from moisture (e.g., a roof) in winter.
