A medium-sized palm that forms a slender trunk up to 14 m tall. The dense crown consists of strongly curved, V-shaped pinnate leaves. It grows primarily in open lowland forests and at medium elevations in the Solomon Islands. In tropical environments, *D. subdistichus* grows extremely quickly. Its cultivation requirements are comparable to other *Veitchia* species, and for this reason, it is a desirable ornamental plant that should also thrive very well indoors.
