This attractive palm is very reminiscent of the well-known and popular coconut palm (Syagrus weddeliana). It is native to the rainforests of the Malay Peninsula and forms small clumps of slender trunks up to 3.5 meters tall with very finely divided, glossy green leaves.
It has a tan to silver crownshaft and pendant leaflets as it matures (younger palms lack a trunk but have upright leaflets). The petioles are an attractive light orange color.
