This very rare and impressive palm forms short, slender trunks up to 2 m tall.Each trunk bears numerous leaves in an open crown consisting of 5 to 7 segments, with the lateral segments narrow and the central segment very broad and divided into two lobes.Lanonia calciphila grows natively in the undergrowth of hard-to-reach rainforests in northern Vietnam at altitudes between 200 and 1200 m.Each plant produces only a few seeds, thus it remains virtually unknown in cultivation.
