A medium-sized, robust, yet very graceful and fine-leaved fan palm, it grows in the drier regions of Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles. It forms a slender, gray trunk up to 15 meters tall and has large, round, light green leaves with up to 60 flexible segments and a beautiful silver-gray coloration on the underside. The highly ornamental seedlings have grass-green leaves and yellow petioles.
