This dwarf species is very rare. It was only recently discovered in the rainforests of Borneo. The southern part of the island, which belongs to Indonesia, is unfortunately severely threatened by deforestation. This palm truly captivates with its spectacular leaves. Dark green leaves are dotted with light green spots, forming a striking pattern. This makes the species resemble the long-established Licuala mattanensis var. Mapu. The main difference between the two species lies in their fruits and seeds. In L. mattanensis, these are oblong, while the fruits and seeds of this new species are round and about one centimeter in size. The plant requires a moist, warm location to thrive. Use well-draining soil and avoid direct sunlight.
