A large climbing palm with slender, cane-like stems up to 6 cm in diameter; these can climb to heights of over 30 m and are heavily armed with golden-yellow spines. The long, arching leaves feature narrow, slightly drooping leaflets and a whip-like extension (cirrus) that aids the plant in climbing. *Plectocomiopsis geminiflora* is native to the rainforests of Indochina and Western Malesia, growing at elevations of up to 800 m. It makes for an interesting ornamental plant in tropical climates, provided there are large trees available for it to climb; however, it also looks great as a houseplant for many years!
