This species originates from the rainforests of Fiji. At almost 30 meters tall, it is one of the largest Veitchias. The trunk is slender, smooth, and gray in color. The large crown stem bears large, curved leaves with drooping leaflets. The plants grow quite rapidly. Veitchia joannis is best suited to tropical regions, but as it is one of the most cold-tolerant Veitchias, it also adapts surprisingly well to warm temperate climates. However, it only tolerates occasional light frost. It also makes a trouble-free and attractive houseplant.
