A large, stemless, and spiny, bushy palm native to the rainforests of southwestern Yunnan, China, and northwestern Thailand. Its edible fruits and seeds are significantly larger than those of other Salacca species. Salacca griffithii tolerates cooler conditions better than other Salacca species and can be cultivated in warm-temperate climates as well as in the tropics.
