This interesting variant of the well-known and popular red leaf palm grows exclusively in a remote valley in central New Caledonia. Significantly, all palms in this location have the yellow-speckled trunk and crown shaft that gave this variant its name, as the coloring is reminiscent of the rind of a watermelon. However, it has the beautiful new red leaves of the normal variant. Due to the remoteness of the location, seeds are very rarely available.
