Sabinaria magnifica is a spectacular and undoubtedly one of the most astonishing ornamental palms in the world. It has a massive crown of large, stiff, round, glossy green leaves with deep central divisions and bright silvery-white undersides on very long stalks. The short fruit cluster bears a relatively small number of large fruits, densely packed and slanting, which turn yellow when ripe. The palm was only discovered and described in 2013 in the dense rainforest area between Colombia and Panama. Collecting seeds in this rather dangerous border region is anything but easy. It thrives in humid, tropical climates. Seedlings have proven robust, adaptable, and vigorous in cultivation. Sabinaria magnifica is certainly the most exciting and astonishing palm discovery since Tahina spectabilis.
