The Golden Licuala is a new, recently described species from Thailand, where it grows in coastal swamp forests. It is now synonymous with Licuala aurantiaca and is characterized by its robust, dense growth, short trunks, palmate leaves with few segments, and ease of care. What makes the Golden Licuala a particularly sought-after ornamental plant are its bright orange leaf sheaths and stems. It thrives best in warm subtropical and tropical regions and requires plenty of water. This attractive species is a solitary understory palm with deeply lobed and widely spaced fan-shaped leaves. It is rarely found in cultivation.
