This small-growing *Licuala* species is found in the rainforests of Terengganu on the Malay Peninsula. It is undoubtedly one of the most stunning species in its genus and is certainly comparable to species such as *L. mattanensis* or *L. cordata*. Its leaves are divided into five or seven segments; the central segment is broad, while the others become progressively narrower towards the base. They display an almost blue-grey metallic sheen—a magnificent and unusual sight, though one that is difficult to capture in photographs using a flash. This botanical gem was only scientifically described in 1997. The species is virtually unknown in cultivation.
